Mark Stephens

Dr Mark Stephens is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Christianity (CPX). He has a PhD in Ancient History from Macquarie University, and a Masters in Divinity from the Australian College of Theology. For 10 years Mark was lecturer at Excelsia College, teaching performing artists how to use their creativity to help audiences think deeply. Contrary to all rational thinking, Mark is a lifelong supporter of the Parramatta Eels rugby league team.

I wrote The End of Thinking? first of all because I’m a thinker. But I contend that everyone’s a thinker: we’ve all got to make decisions, we’ve all got to form opinions, we’ve all got to pick from options. It’s pretty hard to go through life without using your brain, yet we seem to assume that we’re all thinking really well. That thinking is like breathing – it’s a skill that you learn once and you never have to revisit it again. But what if we actually reflected on our thinking? If we had to think about our thinking?
